Everything that we latch on to and gives us inspiration, or even entertainment, is a crutch. For many people, family is a crutch. Smoking is a crutch.
Drinking is a crutch. Relationships are crutches. Religion is but another of the human endeavors.
Of course they are. These things can be very rewarding, but they can also be very destructive...Mankind often needs something to cling to to get through
the rough patches (whether it be positive or negative in it's influence is a matter of personal opinion)...I find nothing wrong with that...it's a need
to be fulfilled like any other and just comes down to human nature when you think about it. And though I realize that religion and personal beliefs do offer
their own considerable rewards for many, I find that organized religion/churches tends to do nothing but rape a person's soul and enslave their mind. But
that's just my opinion...

I'll fully admit that I'm very, very bitter on the topic
I was referring mainly to the type of person who uses religion as a crutch to justify and rationalize poor behavior (ie. the bible says 'spare the
rod', so it's okay to beat my kids).

I guess there are two types? (with infinite variations thereof!)
Religion exists within the indvidual ........ And religion exists within a broader spectrum - Many people, a movement, organisation, set system ETC ETC
Religion within an individual is obviously the most important. To my understanding, this comes under an individuals ability to link up inner morals/beliefs
with the outside/external world (physical) and express them in synchronicity with each other (MANY ways to do this!! What is wrong/right, well again dependant
on the individual!!)
Now, for an individual this can be very sacred (and usually is) , but I guess when this synchronicity radiates to a GREAT degree it can and does effect many
other people, hence religous movements are created.
I believe that even though it may have started out sacred, it can and does get to a point where it has spread out so much it has outlived its purpose - the
cycle has to be restarted otherwise it'll continue to corrupt itself and the original definition is lost.
Such corruption is evident when the 'movement' is based upon physical needs. Land, ownership, 'rights' etc etc.
Religion was never meant to be a tool to inflict material ownership... We can see countries doing that...
Alot to say on this subject, yes.
Well, stay true to yourself. Act with honor, and always move in ways that'll ascend yourself while at the same time understanding everything else that is
happening around you. Yes, I believe empathy is important, but it is only as effective as the individuals understanding of 'greater truth'.
Its a big ask, but it was never meant to be easy.
(I haven't read previous pages, apologies for repeating points if I have)

On a serious note, a lot of people blame religion for the stupid shit that some people do. I don't think religion is really the problem. Certain people
are the problem. Extremists use religion as an excuse to do crazy stupid shit, but if religion did not exist, they would still do the same shit, they would
just use a different excuse.
